Welcome to the

Climate Restoration Summit at EarthX

We invite you to let your shoulders relax as you realize we DO have real solutions to end the climate crisis.

They’re just not what you may think.

Scroll down for context, speakers, and agenda.

Climate restoration is our generation’s moonshot.

Watch this!

The Earth has a fever.

Climate restorers have the cure.

And it’s likely not what you think.

Sure, renewable energy and “net-zero emissions” are vital. But even halting all emissions tomorrow won’t end the climate crisis.

While not widely known (yet), we already have the science, the know-how, and financing to restore a safe climate by 2050.

Mother Nature has been removing CO2 from the atmosphere for eons and has given us the blueprint.

So what can bring back a safe climate?

Climate restoration: restoring preindustrial CO2 levels by 2050.

We need clean energy plus removal of the legacy CO2 already in the air, accumulated over the last 200 years.

At the Climate Restoration Summit, you’ll meet leading researchers and entrepreneurs; academics and youth leaders; environmentalists and filmmakers.

Come early. Stay all day. And leave with realistic optimism.

You’ll know how you can raise your voice to help make climate restoration a reality.

Agenda

Climate Restoration Summit, Cortez-C

9:05 - 9:10 | Climate Restoration: Injecting Hope in the Climate Conversation

This short, high-impact video introduces climate restoration—the effort to return Earth's climate to safe, pre-industrial conditions by 2050. Through powerful narration and visuals, it shows the scale of the challenge, what it will take to succeed, and why going “beyond net zero” is both necessary and achievable.

9:10 - 9:25 | There's a Cure for Climate Breakdown. It's Called Climate Restoration

Carole Douglis—Communications Director for Foundation for Climate Restoration; Co-author, Climate Restoration—The Only Future That Will Sustain the Human Race)

Douglis will invite participants to rethink longstanding assumptions about the climate challenge, climate action, and what's possible to reclaim in our lifetime.

9:30 - 9:55 | The Sea Around Us, The Science Before Us: Why the Ocean Is the Largest Lever in Climate Restoration

Peter Fiekowsky—physicist, founder of the field of Climate Restoration and author of Climate Restoration—The Only Future That Will Sustain the Human Race

Fiekowksy makes the scientific and moral case for restoring the climate by fertilizing ocean areas as nature has done for millions of years. Extensive research points to “ocean iron fertilization” as the most powerful, most affordable…yet most underused climate solution.

He shows how targeted interventions in less than one percent of the ocean's surface could sequester gigatons of CO₂; revive collapsed fisheries; and restore the climate by mid-century.

10:00 - 10:10 | Making Your Voice Heard for Climate Restoration

Dave Cortese—California State Senator

Senator Cortese authored the first two successful climate restoration resolutions in the nation. for Santa Clara and then the State of California. He’ll share how citizens can leverage their efforts to get important policy wins.

10:15 - 10:55 | The Secrets of Why and How Sierra Club Adopted a Climate Restoration Policy

Bruce Melton, PE—Engineer, filmmaker, climate educator; Director, Climate Change Now Initiative

Bruce will present video from his groundbreaking climate documentaries. And share what it took to inspire an influential environmental organization to adopt climate restoration principles.

11:00 - 12:00 | A Novel, Low-cost Measurement System for Marine CO2 Removal

David Snyder, PE— Chief Operations Officer of DeepGreen Solutions)

DeepGreen Solutions is developing an innovative CO2 measurement system. Low-cost CO2 measurement is a critical part of affordable, fundable climate restoration solutions. Getting it right can advance the whole field of carbon removal and climate restoration.

1:30 - 2:25 | Documenting Climate Restoration & Creating a Movement for the Future

  • John Bowey—International filmmaker; producer of four climate restoration documentaries and the Climate Repair Café

  • Kylee Solt-Linville—TikTok influencer forwarding climate restoration

  • Anika Deshpande—Vice-President, Youth 4 Climate Restoration (Y4CR)

  • Alice Yee—‍ Youth Leader of the Youth for Climate Restoration (Y4CR) Projects Team

TThe session begins with video clips from documentaries by international filmmaker John Bowey. They introduce the four-part series The Climate Restorers, and Bowey’s new Climate Repair Café, which invites young people into meaningful climate conversations. Then Anika Deshpande and Alice Yee will speak about their work with Youth for Climate Restoration (Y4CR), and Kylee Solt-Linville will reflect on becoming a TikTok influencer with a cause. They’ll welcome audience questions about building a youth movement to restore a safe climate.

2:30 - 3:00 | The Eagle and The Condor: A Documentary of Restoration and Hope

Rodney Whittenberg—Emmy Award-Winning composer, filmmaker, founder of MelodyVision

This new documentary by Vic Compher and Rodney Whittenberg frames our climate choices through an ancient prophecy. It shows how partnership with nature is helping scientists and entrepreneurs devise restoration solutions. And how we all can benefit from closer relationship with the natural world.

3:00 - 3:50 | Positive Polar: Whale Poop, Citizen Science, and CO2 Removal

  • Dr. Jenn Bonilla—President, Positive Polar

  • Capt. Hugo Hinrichsen—CEO, Positive Polar

Imagine taking a luxury cruise where you delve into restoration science, help bring back the whales—and contribute to CO2 removal!

Positive Polar is figuring out how to transform ship waste into synthetic whale poop. Every cruise ship could then replicate the natural ocean fertilization that whales once provided to nourish marine life, restore the ocean, and remove significant amounts of CO2.

4:00 - 4:50 | It’s Not The Cow; It's the How

How Grazing Animals Decarbonized the Earth Before and Can Do it Again, Profitably

Hunter Lovins—Renewable energy and sustainability pioneer; President of Natural Capitalism Solutions

Hunter Lovins will share surprising examples from around the world where the right choices restore land, communities, and economies. For instance, when following nature’s example, cattle ranching can restore degraded soils, aid the climate, and turn a profit. So can growing crops with regenerative principles.

The eco-restoration movement is growing fast, along with regenerative agriculture. In the next few decades, they could make a huge contribution to environmental, wildlife, and human health; food security; and climate restoration.

4:50 - 5:00 |Closing Remarks & Optimism Check-in

Marcus Cooper, Chief of Staff for DeepGreen Solutions and today’s MC, will invite participants to share their level of climate optimism after a day learning about solutions.
